The pony routes used to reach here have also been closed for a long time, due to which the earnings of hundreds of pony drivers have almost ended. Even after a year, Baisaran Valley is not completely open for tourists. Access is allowed to some parts, but further security forces have put up barriers. Tourists are not able to fully experience the valley. Due to this many people return disappointed.

How is the situation one year after the Pahalgam attack?

Thousands of families in this area depend on tourism. The lives of pony drivers, taxi drivers and shopkeepers have all been affected. Many people say that if the valley is not completely opened soon, it will become difficult for them to survive. Some pony owners have even talked about selling their horses because it has become difficult for them to even procure fodder. Due to the closure of Baisaran Valley, not only the pony riders but the entire tourism industry suffered losses. Hotel owners say that now only 30 percent of their rooms are filled. Where earlier tourists used to stay for several days, now they return in just 1-2 days. They are confined only to some nearby open areas like Betab Valley or Aru Valley.

Government’s preparation and new plan

The government is now trying to normalize the situation. Security has been increased and the area is being constantly inspected. Apart from this, there is also a plan to build a new road till Baisaran Valley, which will make it easier to reach there and help can reach quickly in case of emergency, although the situation has not yet become completely normal, but gradually improvement is visible. Some tourist places have been reopened and the number of tourists has also started increasing. Local people are hoping that Baisaran Valley will also be completely opened soon.
