- Dependence on AI decreases interest in solving problems
Artificial Intelligence: Nowadays people have started taking help of AI tools for every small and big problem. Whether asking a question, solving math or understanding a topic, everything is available in a few seconds. But while this technology makes the work easier, some of its effects are also coming to the fore which are not being given much attention.
What does the new study say about the effect of AI on the brain?
A recent research revealed that with the help of AI, people complete their work faster, especially when it comes to difficult questions or tasks related to logic. That is, as long as AI is present, the performance looks good. But the real problem came to light when the researchers removed the AI help from the participants. As soon as this support ended, there was a decline in people’s performance. They started making more mistakes and their interest in solving difficult questions also decreased.
effect in a few minutes
It was also observed in this study that taking help of AI for just 10 minutes was enough which affected people’s independent thinking and problem solving ability. This means that even short-term use can affect long-term behavior.
Different groups, same results
Hundreds of people were involved in the research and they were given different tasks. Some had to solve mathematics problems while some had to read comprehension paragraphs. Interestingly, a similar trend was seen in all the groups; without AI, their performance became weaker.
Why is it a matter of concern?
According to Rachit Dubey, a researcher working on this topic, it is not just a matter of giving wrong answers. The real concern is that people may gradually lose the habit of thinking for themselves. If dependence on AI increases for every task, then humans may lose patience and start avoiding solving problems on their own.
balance is the solution
AI is a powerful tool but its proper use is very important. If it is used only as an aid and your thinking is kept active then it can prove beneficial. Otherwise, excessive dependence can gradually weaken our ability to think and understand.
