BCCI breaks silence on death of IPL broadcaster engineer, sends message to family

A sad news has come out amid IPL 2026. BCCI's broadcast engineer's body found in hotel room. The death of this British citizen staying in Trident Hotel in Mumbai shook the cricket world. The deceased has been identified as Ian Williams Langford. He was working as a broadcast engineer with BCCI.

BCCI's statement on the death of IPL broadcast engineer

Mumbai: The Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council on Tuesday expressed deep condolences on the untimely demise of British broadcast engineer John William Langford, who was working with the BCCI for the 2026 season of the league. The Governing Council also assured the bereaved family of all possible help.

Langford was 76 years old. He was found unconscious in his room in a hotel in South Mumbai on Monday morning, after which the hotel management immediately took him to the hospital. An official said that on reaching the hospital, doctors declared him dead.

The IPL said in a statement, 'The IPL Governing Council and all its stakeholders express our deepest condolences on the untimely demise of Ian Williams Langford. He was an important part of our broadcast operations. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. It said, 'IPL is committed to providing all necessary help and support to Langford's family at this very difficult time.'

Murder or accident, how did the engineer die?
Langford had come here to work as a broadcast engineer for IPL matches. An officer of the Marine Drive police station said that nothing suspicious was found in his postmortem and a case of unnatural death has been registered and investigation is underway.
