It actually works like a metal box, which blocks out microwave waves like mobile signals. The interesting thing is that not only the walls of the compartment, but also a very thin metal layer is applied on the glass of the windows, which helps in protecting from heat and cold, but due to this, the mobile signal also stops from coming inside. This is why the signal looks weak when you are sitting inside the train, but as you move closer to the window or step out of the compartment, the signal gets a little better.

Tower changes frequently due to high speed
The second big reason is the high speed of the train. When you are sitting at one place, your phone is constantly connected to the same mobile tower, but while traveling in a train, you move out of the range of one tower and reach the range of another tower every few seconds. As soon as your phone comes within the signal range of any tower, just as quickly it goes out of that tower’s range and has to try to connect to a new tower again. The faster the train moves, the faster the signal strength changes, which increases the chances of call disconnection and network breakdown.
Apart from this, there is another reason, which is related to the geographical location of the route. When train tracks often pass through areas where there is less population, such as forests, hilly areas, or fields. Mobile companies do not install many towers in these areas because the number of users is less there and installing towers is not considered beneficial for the company. Apart from this, the signal also becomes weak in tunnels, mountain valleys and winding tracks, because there the direct path of the tower does not reach the phone.
