Indians dominate Wisden awards: Deepti Mahila and Abhishek best T-20 cricketers

London: Indian cricketers dominated the Wisden Almanack 2026 awards, taking home seven out of nine awards, with Deepti Sharma named Women’s Cricketer of the Year and Abhishek Sharma named T20 Cricketer of the Year.

Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja have been included in Wisden’s five Cricketers of the Year for their stellar performances in the Test series in England last year.

Apart from Indian cricketers, players from other countries who were selected for the award include Australia’s leading fast bowler Mitchell Starc, who was chosen as the world’s best male cricketer, apart from him, England batsman Haseeb Hameed was also included in the five best cricketers of the year along with four Indian players.

Deepti was given this honor for taking 22 wickets in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup last year. Due to the brilliant performance of this all-rounder, the Indian women’s team won its first global title by defeating South Africa in the final played in Mumbai. Deepti had also scored 215 runs in nine matches with the help of three half-centuries.

Abhishek performed brilliantly in the 2025 season. In this season, he scored 859 runs in 21 matches at an excellent strike rate of 193, which included one century and five half-centuries.

During the tour of England for the Test series last year, Indian Test captain Gill showed excellent form and scored 754 runs and played an important role in drawing the five-match series 2-2. It is noteworthy that he scored 430 runs in the Edgbaston Test alone.

Fast bowler Siraj took the maximum 23 wickets in this series played for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, while Pant scored 479 runs before sitting out of the fifth match due to an injury in the fourth Test. Despite suffering a fracture in his toe, he scored 54 runs in the second innings in Manchester.
