Jaiswal can still be selected in the ODI team, one last door is still open

Yashasvi Jaiswal: Virat Kohli is going to give fitness test in Bengaluru on 22nd June. If he fails in this, then the selectors will not waste any time in taking Yashasvi Jaiswal to England in his place. After his brilliant performance in IPL 2026, Virat Kohli complained of hamstring strain. In such a situation, now Yashasvi’s last hope rests on Virat’s fitness report.
Yashasvi Jaiswal did not get a chance in the ODI series
In fact, among the 15 players whose names have been announced by the senior committee under the chairmanship of Ajit Agarkar, Virat Kohli has been specially mentioned. BCCI’s official press release states that Kohli’s availability is based on fitness. That means Virat Kohli, who is injured, will play the ODI series in England only if he passes the fitness test. If he is not able to be fit by the stipulated time, then some other player will be selected in his place.
Now Yashasvi’s everything depends on God.
Due to hamstring strain, Virat could not play in the home ODI series against Afghanistan. In such a situation, the selectors included Yashasvi Jaiswal in the squad. Even though Jaiswal was out after scoring only four runs in the second ODI in Lucknow, in the next, third and last match in Chennai, he played an unbeaten inning of 110 runs in 86 balls. If Virat is not completely fit then the selectors will have to announce his replacement, who will be 100% Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Why was he not selected despite two centuries in three matches?
Actually, due to the absence of Virat Kohli, in the home ODI series against Afghanistan, Shubman Gill went to bat at the number three position and vacated his opening slot for Yashasvi Jaiswal, but now when Virat will arrive, Gill will have to open with Rohit. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer are at fourth and fifth position, hence there was no place for Yashasvi. Perhaps this is the reason why despite scoring two centuries each in the last three ODI innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal did not get a place on the England tour.
