- BAT-BMS app is stopping e-rickshaws on the road.
- This app disables battery discharge by connecting to Bluetooth.
- Electric bikes and cars with safe BMS will not be affected by this.
BAT-BMS App: These days a Chinese app is in the news a lot. The name of this app is BAT-BMS. Many such videos are going viral on social media, in which e-rickshaws are being stopped while moving on the road with the help of this app. This app stops the output of the battery and the electric rickshaw stops mid-road. This also raises the question whether electric bikes and cars can also be switched off with this app? Let us know how this app works and whether it can stop other electric vehicles too.
What is BAT-BMS App?
BAT-BMS is a Chinese app that manages and monitors lithium batteries that come with Bluetooth-enabled battery management (BMS). This app shows many real-time information including voltage, current, temperature, charging status, battery health and capacity. Depending on the model of the battery, it also has advanced controls, which can disable charging and discharging. Actually it was designed for off-grid, solar and marine batteries, but now it is being mischievously used to shut down e-rickshaws.
How does this app work?
Many lithium batteries are equipped with a battery management system. If this system is not disabled or protected then it becomes easy to connect the phone. This app connects to the battery through Bluetooth. For this, it is necessary for the phone to be within a range of 10-15 meters. Once connected, the battery discharge function can be disabled through the app. As soon as this is done, the electricity going from the battery to the motor of the e-rickshaw stops. Due to this the e-rickshaw stops there. Even if the battery is fully charged, the rickshaw will not be able to move forward if this function is disabled.
Can this also stop electric bikes and cars?
After such incidents with e-rickshaws, this question is arising in the minds of people whether electric bikes and cars can also be stopped with this. The answer depends on which battery is installed in that vehicle and whether its battery management system is protected. There is no evidence that BAT-BMS connects to every battery. It connects only with the battery which has a compatible BMS and no protection is provided on it. If we talk about Lithium battery, many companies use their proprietary battery management system on it, for which there is a dedicated app and it cannot be connected to BAT-BMS. Experts say that if the battery management system is secured, then there is no risk of the battery shutting down from such apps.
