New Delhi. A tragic incident took place during the match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League 2026 on Saturday, 25 April. Delhi bowler Lungi Ngidi got badly injured after falling on the ground while fielding. He had to be taken off the field in an ambulance. The good news is that his injury is not serious and he can soon get fit and come back to play in the league.

Delhi Capitals Director of Cricket Venugopal Rao said the head injury suffered by fast bowler Lungi Ngidi during the IPL match against Punjab Kings is “not serious”. After being taken from the field in an ambulance, the South African player was taken to Max Hospital in Karol Bagh for examination. In the third over of Punjab Kings’ innings, Ngidi fell behind while trying to catch Priyansh Arya at mid-off and his head hit the ground hard. He immediately held his head and lay down on the ground, after which the medical staff immediately reached the field. The game stopped for about 15 minutes. Ngidi was taken to the ambulance on a stretcher. During this time, players, coaches and medical staff all looked worried.

Rao said after the match, “I think it is not serious. He is still in the hospital. We will give updates, but nothing serious.” On the confusion over concussion substitution, in which Dushmantha Chameera’s name came up first and Vipraj Nigam was brought in later, Rao clarified, “Only four foreign players can play. That’s the rule. We can’t take a fifth foreign player. It’s a simple rule.”
