Betting And Gambling Platforms Banned: The government has once again cracked down on apps and websites related to betting and gambling. In one stroke, the government has blocked 300 websites and apps which were related to betting and gambling. According to reports, these platforms were involved in illegal activities like online betting, casino-style gaming and betting. Even in January, the government had banned 242 such apps. Overall, the government has so far banned about 8400 such platforms.
Effort to make digital space clean
The government keeps taking such actions from time to time to make the digital space clean and to protect people from online fraud etc. For some time now, action against apps and websites related to gambling and betting has intensified. The government has banned a total of 8400 such platforms and out of these, 4900 have been banned after the implementation of the Online Gaming Act. Regarding the latest action, the government has said that this action has been taken by targeting online sports betting websites, virtual casinos, and betting exchanges working as peer-to-peer marketplaces etc.
Many dangers from such apps simultaneously
There are many dangers associated with illegal betting apps and websites. Apart from wasting people's money, it is also a problem for legal agencies. They are being used for money laundering and digital scams. Besides, people are also getting addicted to them. Most of these sites operate from outside India, which becomes difficult to track. In such a situation, the government wants to protect people from such scams and platforms by blocking their access.
