Gambhir's 10 year old record destroyed…Rahane becomes 'number 1 captain'

Ajinkya Rahane surpasses Gautam Gambhir: In the very first match of IPL, Ajinkya Rahane created history by creating chaos with the bat on the Wankhede ground. As the new captain of KKR, Rahane broke the 10-year-old record of Gautam Gambhir by playing an explosive inning of 67 runs in just 40 balls against Mumbai Indians. Gambhir had scored 64 runs as captain against Mumbai Indians in 2016. This classic inning of Rahane proved that records are made only to be broken in front of experience.

New Delhi. IPL has started. In the very first match, there was such a flood of runs in Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium that it wiped off the dust of history. In this match played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians, KKR's new captain Ajinkya Rahane did what even the veteran Gautam Gambhir could not do with his batting. The record of playing the biggest innings for KKR as captain against Mumbai Indians was in the name of Gautam Gambhir for the last 10 years. Gambhir had played an inning of 64 runs in 52 balls against Mumbai at Eden Gardens in 2016. But on Sunday, Rahane refreshed old memories at his home ground Wankhede. Rahane broke Gambhir's decade-old record by playing a stormy innings of 67 runs in just 40 balls. This 'classy' style of Rahane while opening the match shows that he has entered this season of IPL with a different intention.
Ajinkya Rahane has made a record as the captain of KKR. But the overall record of the biggest innings as a captain against Mumbai Indians is still in the name of KL Rahul. While captaining Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the year 2022, Rahul had played innings of 103 unbeaten runs twice against Mumbai. Whereas, if it is only about runs, then the name of 'Mr. 360' AB de Villiers comes at the top. De Villiers, while playing for RCB at the same Wankhede Stadium in 2015, played a historic inning of 133 not out, which is still the highest score by any batsman against Mumbai Indians.

Team of 'Shatakvirs' against Mumbai Indians
Touching the figure of 100 against a team with lethal bowling like Mumbai Indians is like a dream. Even though Rahane missed the century, there are some names recorded in history who have exposed the Mumbai bowlers. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul have scored 2 centuries each against Mumbai. Batsmen like Shubman Gill, Adam Gilchrist, Ben Stokes, Hashim Amla, Venkatesh Iyer, Yusuf Pathan and Jos Buttler have also scored centuries against Mumbai Indians.
KKR scored 220 runs
Kolkata Knight Riders scored 220 runs for four wickets against Mumbai Indians thanks to half-centuries from captain Ajinkya Rahane (67) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (51). Mumbai Indians bowlers could not dominate in their first match on a flat pitch, but Shardul Thakur (3 wickets for 39 runs) gave important success to the team. Both the senior fast bowlers of the team, Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah did not get any wicket. However, the economical bowling of India's main fast bowler in the 18th and 20th overs prevented KKR from getting close to 250 runs.
