Amidst all these T20 leagues, a tournament is played in England in which 100-100 ball matches take place, which is named The Hundred. The sixth season of The Hundred will be played this year, but before that there has been a big controversy regarding this tournament.
Actually, recently an auction was held for The Hundred to be played in July. When does The Hundred start?
The Hundred played in England is a completely new and unique format of cricket. Although, it is a franchise based league like IPL, but it is quite different from IPL in terms of rules and pace of the game. A total of 8 city-based teams participate in The Hundred. The special thing is that men's and women's tournaments run simultaneously. Some big IPL franchises have also bought stakes in The Hundred teams for the 2026 season. The Hundred started in 2021.
Why is there a 100-100 ball match?
As the name of the tournament is The Hundred, due to which there is a match of 100-100 balls. According to the basic rules of cricket, whichever team scores more runs in the match is the winner. In a match, a bowler can bowl at least 5 and maximum 10 balls continuously. It completely depends on the decision of the captain. Overall it can be said that there is an over of 5 balls. In T20 format, a bowler bowls 24 balls i.e. 4 overs, but in The Hundred, any bowler can bowl only 20 balls in the match.
What is the time out rule in the match?
There are two time outs of 3-3 minutes in every innings of IPL. One for the bowling team and the other for batting. The bowling team takes time out between 6 to 9 overs, while the slot for batting is between 13 to 16 overs. Talking about The Hundred, there is a time out of 90 seconds. During this time out, the coach can also come on the field to make strategies with his players.
How many balls is the power play?
The power play in IPL is of 6 overs, in which there are only two fielders outside the 30 yards radius. Whereas in The Hundred there is a power play of 25 balls. Apart from this, the duration of completion of the match is two to two and a half hours.
What is the rule of points in Hundred?
A total of 8 teams participate in The Hundred and all have to play 8-8 league matches. The team that tops the points table directly reaches the finals. The eliminator is played between the second and third placed teams. The team that wins every match in the league stage gets 4 points. If the scores of both the teams are equal then two points each are divided. Apart from this, even if the match does not take place due to rain or any other reason, points are distributed.
