Elon Musk’s Starmind: Rising above the race for AI data centers on the ground, the world’s richest man Elon Musk now wants to use space. His company SpaceX wants to send 1 million AI satellites into space. These satellites will have powerful chips and will do AI computing. Now this project has also got a name. Elon Musk has confirmed that this project will be called Starmind. Although it may sound like the company’s Starlink, there will be a lot of difference in the work of both. Let us know what information related to this project has come to light.
Work on Starmind has started
Even though the name of this project has just been confirmed, work on it has been going on for several months. In January this year, SpaceX had sought permission from the US Federal Communications Commission (USFCC) to build a network of 1 million AI satellites. Under this project, the company wants to build a huge computing network in outer space. The satellites installed in this network will not only transmit information but will also complete computing tasks related to AI. These satellites will be equipped with powerful processors, which will keep working by taking energy from solar power. Each satellite will be about 79 meters wide and will be able to provide computing power of 120-150 kW.
Preparation for launch next year
For testing this project, two test units can be launched early next year. If everything goes as expected, then it is possible that your AI request will be processed in space and there will be no need for data centers built on the ground for this entire work. According to reports, SpaceX can also take the help of its Starship rocket in preparing the satellite network. This rocket can carry 30-50 AI satellites in every launch.
Why does Musk want to build a satellite network in space?
After the advent of AI, the demand for data centers has increased, but companies are facing tough challenges to build new data centers. First of all, space is required for the data center. After this, they require large amounts of water and energy, due to which companies often have to face opposition. In view of this, space for data center is now being looked at.
