Foods To Avoid In Early Pregnancy: As soon as pregnancy begins, women are given various types of advice regarding eating habits. Among these, the things about which people are asked to be most careful are papaya and pineapple. Often, everyone from the elders in the house to many doctors advise to stay away from these two fruits during early pregnancy. In such a situation, the question arises that why is it said so and can these fruits really become the cause of unwanted abortion.
Which papayas should not be eaten?
First of all, if we talk about papaya, then the biggest concern regarding this is regarding raw or underripe papaya. Actually, elements like latex and papain are found in large quantities in raw papaya. These are considered risky during pregnancy, because in some research and lab studies, the effect of these elements has been found to stimulate the uterus. It is believed that it can increase contraction in the uterus and for this reason it is advised to stay away from raw papaya in early pregnancy. This is the reason why underripe or green papaya is not considered safe for pregnant women.

Can you eat ripe papaya?
According to healthline, a website providing information about health, fully ripe papaya is different from this. The amount of latex in ripe papaya is significantly reduced and it also contains vitamin C, folate, fiber and other nutrients. Therefore, some experts believe that ripe papaya in small quantities is not dangerous for every pregnant woman. Still, because there is not much solid research on this in humans, doctors recommend caution in most cases.
How harmful is pineapple?
Now if we talk about pineapple, the fear of miscarriage is often heard regarding it. The reason for this is an enzyme called bromelain, which is found in pineapple. It is believed that it can work to soften the cervix and affect the uterus. However, there is no strong scientific evidence that eating pineapple in moderate amounts will cause a miscarriage. It is considered a problem when it is taken in too much quantity or the body is already in a sensitive state due to some reason.
This is the reason why one should not be completely careless about papaya and pineapple in early pregnancy. Especially if the woman’s pregnancy is high risk, she has had a previous miscarriage, there is a bleeding problem or the doctor has asked her to take special care in her eating habits, then she must take advice before eating these fruits.
