Illegal Content On Phone: Content stored on your phone can even land you in jail. A similar case has just come to light, where Delhi Police has arrested 10 people. He is accused of storing and circulating content related to sexual exploitation of children on his phone. This information was received from Google’s detection system and the police conducted a 5-day operation and arrested these people. Police said that the accused had used cloud storage, social media platforms and mobile apps to download, store and distribute illegal content.
Google detected the content stored in the phone
Google uses hash matching and artificial intelligence to detect child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on its services. In hash matching, an image or video is converted into a unique digital fingerprint, which is called hash. Whenever a file is uploaded to Google’s servers, the company’s system compares its hash with CSAM’s database. If it matches, the system automatically alerts you about it. It neither requires nor requires opening the file. If the system finds any material whose hash does not already exist, then Google recognizes its pattern with the help of AI model. In this way it is able to detect new and edited content.
How does information from Google’s system reach the police?
When Google’s system detects objectionable and illegal content, it removes it and sends its report to the US-based National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). This report contains content, account details and other important information. After this, NCMEC sends this report to the legal agencies of the concerned country, which investigate it.
Do not keep such content in your phone even by mistake
There is a legal ban in India on downloading, storing and sharing obscene content related to children. No person can store or share such content on his phone or social media account etc. If anyone is found doing this, he will have to face legal action. Action can be taken against him under the IT Act as well as the POCSO Act.
