| Delhi University Introduces GATE Based MTech Admissions CUET PG to Fill Remaining Seats

Delhi University (DU) has taken a big decision for the students associated with technical education. Now for the first time, GATE score will be used for admission to MTech courses of the university. Till now GATE score was mainly used for admission into IITs, NITs and other technical institutes, but now Delhi University has also joined this list.

The special thing is that opportunities will not end even for those students who do not have GATE score. The university has made it clear that if seats remain vacant then admission will also be given on the basis of CUET-PG score. In such a situation, this decision has brought new hope for thousands of engineering students.

This is the first time in the history of Delhi University that GATE score will be given priority for admission to any post graduate degree course. According to Haneet Gandhi, Dean of Admissions of the university, earlier GATE score was used only for admission to PhD, but now it will be used in MTech courses also. The university will first prepare the merit list of the candidates with GATE score and allot seats.

Decision taken after AICTE approval

The university said that MTech is not a new course. This course is already running, but recently it has got the approval of AICTE i.e. All India Council for Technical Education. After this approval, changes have been made in the admission process and GATE score has been included. It is believed that this will increase both the quality and competition of the course.

Who can apply?

To apply for this course, the candidate must have BTech, BE, BSc Engineering, MSc or equivalent degree. Also, it is necessary to have a degree in related technical subjects. These include subjects like Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering and Radio Physics and Electronics Engineering. Students who have obtained a degree from a recognized university or institute will be eligible to apply.

Admission will be done on total 30 seats

Delhi University has fixed a total of 30 seats for this MTech course. Of these, 13 seats are reserved for general category, 8 seats for OBC category, 4 seats for SC category, 2 seats for ST category and 3 seats for EWS category. Admission in all classes will be done on the basis of merit.

The path will be open for CUET-PG candidates also

The university has clarified that CUET-PG pass students can also apply for this course. However, candidates with GATE score will get the first chance in seat allotment. If seats remain vacant in any category, those seats will be filled on the basis of merit of the candidates of CUET-PG 2026-27. That means students who have not given GATE can also hope to get admission in this course.

Admission will not be done through CSAS-PG portal

Delhi University has also clarified that admission to this MTech course will not be done through the CSAS-PG portal like normal PG admission. For this, the university will start a separate special portal, where interested students will be able to apply. With this, the entire process will be conducted as per the requirements of the technical course.
