Delhi Capitals made the smallest score in IPL powerplay, shameful record of Akshar’s team

New Delhi. The 39th match of IPL 2026 became witness to many shameful records. The Delhi Capitals team, which came to bat first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, fell apart like a pack of cards. RCB fast bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood wreaked such havoc with their fiery balls that 6 batsmen returned to the pavilion one after the other and only 9 runs were on the board. The effect of the havoc caused by this dreaded bowling pair of RCB was that Delhi Capitals, despite not wanting to, made the shameful record of the smallest total in the powerplay.

Lowest total in IPL powerplay
Delhi Capitals scored only 13 runs in the first 6 overs and 6 of its batsmen had returned to the pavilion. This is the smallest total made in the powerplay by any team in the IPL. Earlier, Rajasthan Royals had this shameful record, whose powerplay score against RCB in 2009 was 14/2. In 2022, Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 14/3 in the powerplay, which is the third lowest powerplay total. Chennai Super Kings team is at fourth (15/2 vs KKR, 2011), 5th (16/1 vs Delhi Daredevils, 2015) and sixth (16/1 vs RCB, 2019) in this list.

Bhuvi-Hazelwood wreaked havoc
RCB won the toss and decided to bowl, which Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood proved right and created a stir with their pace. Both these bowlers dominated the Delhi team to such an extent that there was a constant flow of batsmen coming and going in the first half hour. These two experienced bowlers have shown that even today ‘accurate line and length’ is the biggest weapon in T20 cricket. Hazlewood took wickets with his ‘Test match’ precise line and length, while the Yorker King showed the magic of his swing.

Delhi’s innings scattered like cards
In the very first over, Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave the first blow to Delhi by bowling an excellent yorker ball to debutant Sahil Parakh. Hazlewood, who came with the second over, created panic in the Delhi camp by taking wickets in the first two balls. First KL Rahul and then Sameer Rizvi became their victims. In the third over, Bhuvneshwar again spread his magic and took two wickets. He sent Tristan Stubbs back to the pavilion on the first ball and Axar Patel on the fourth ball.
