DC VS KKR: Akshar Patel devastated by the defeat of Delhi Capitals, said – ‘Now next year…’

The poor performance of Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026 remains in the news. In the match played at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday, Kolkata Knight Riders increased their problems further by defeating Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets. After this defeat, team captain Akshar Patel looked very disappointed and he gave a big statement after the match.

Akshar Patel admitted that the team made a lot of mistakes while batting. According to him, Delhi Capitals scored less runs than expected and due to continuous loss of wickets in the middle overs, the team lagged behind in the match. He said that the fall of five wickets in just two to three overs proved to be the biggest turning point of the match.

Akshar also admitted that the team had made similar mistakes in the past also. Referring to the match played against Chennai Super Kings, he said that there too the batsmen came under pressure after a good start.

Questions raised on the mindset of the batsmen

The Delhi captain also spoke openly about the thinking of the batsmen. He said that batsmen need to show patience in difficult situations. According to Akshar, when wickets are falling continuously, then the team should play a few overs cautiously so that the innings can be stabilized.

He said, ‘Look, you can’t solve this the hard way. When Ashutosh and I were batting, we were thinking that if we made any mistake there, it would become very difficult for the next batsman. For this reason I feel it is more important to adopt the right mindset. Even if you lose one or two wickets, you can still spend time at the crease and play. I think this is what needs to be adopted, when wickets are falling together, you have to bear the pressure for one or two overs.

Akshar Patel gave clear indications that now the team can focus on preparing for the future. He said, ‘For now we will go back and think about the mistakes we have made. After that, obviously, there is still a long way to go and next year will also come. We will think about what plans we can make for the next year and what approach we should adopt. Based on that we can also look at the players sitting on the bench and decide who can be given chances and what changes we can make.

Finn Allen played match winning innings

In the match, Delhi Capitals, batting first, scored 142 runs in 20 overs. Pathum Nissanka scored the highest score of 50 runs, but the rest of the batsmen failed to make any impact. While chasing the target of 143 runs, KKR batsman Finn Allen batted in a stormy manner. He thrashed the Delhi bowlers by scoring unbeaten 100 runs in just 47 balls. Cameron Green also played a useful inning of 33 runs and led the team to an easy victory.
