Daniel Vettori clarifies on buying Abrar in The Hundred
New Delhi: Now Sunrisers Leeds coach has broken his silence on the ongoing controversy regarding Pakistani spinner Abrar Ahmed in The Hundred auction. Sunrisers Leads has bought Abrar Ahmed in the auction for a price of more than Rs 2 crore, due to which team owner Kavya Maran is also being criticized. In such a situation, now team coach Vettori gave clarification and said that it was last because the team had bid for Abrar in the auction.
Daniel Vettori said that he could not get Adil Rashid in the auction, due to which he had to take a foreign spinner. In this way, Abrar has become the first Pakistani player to be signed by an Indian-owned team, which has caused controversy in India. Many fans have criticized Sunrisers Leads and owner Kavya Maran on social media. After this, the official X account of Sunrisers Leeds also got suspended.
Team owner has not responded
The team owners have not yet responded to the criticism, but Vettori said the decision was taken based on the demand and supply of the auction. Abrar was selected when Rashid was not available. Vettori said, “When we could not get Adil Rashid, who was our priority, then we looked at foreign spinners. Four-five players were looked at and Abrar was one of them.”
Let us tell you that apart from Sunrisers team, no other Indian owned team has signed any Pakistani player. Earlier reports said that there is a shadow ban on Pakistani players for Indian-owned teams in The Hundred, but later all eight franchises issued statements that the players will be selected on the basis of merit and cricketing ability.
