Aadhaar Card Loan Scam: Scammers give fake advertisements on social media to trap people. In these, tempting promises or big lure are given, so that people click on them and get trapped in their trap. Now in a similar latest case, an advertisement is claiming to give a loan of Rs 3 lakh on Aadhar card. The advertisement claims that under the ‘Prime Minister Loan Scheme’, people can take a loan of Rs 3 lakh on their Aadhar card. The government has termed this advertisement as fake and has asked people not to believe such claims. The government says that there is no such scheme.

What is being claimed in Aadhar Card Loan Scam?

In a sponsored ad on YouTube and other social media platforms, it is being claimed that a loan of Rs 3 lakh is being given with minimum documents. Realistic looking graphics have been used in this so that people’s trust can be won. Phrases like ‘Apply Now’ have also been used in this ad. In many cases, links and QR codes are also provided, which are redirecting users to external apps and websites.

Government gave clarification

The government has called this claim being made on social media as fake. PIB Fact Check has posted a post stating that a claim of getting a loan of Rs 3 lakh under the Prime Minister Loan Scheme is being made on YouTube. This claim is completely fake. The government does not endorse any such scheme or ad. People need to be careful about this and use the official website for information about government services.

How to protect yourself from such scams?

  • Avoid clicking on suspicious and tempting ads seen on social media.
  • Always verify any scheme from the government portal or other official channel.
  • Do not share your important information on any unknown or suspicious websites and apps.
  • Look carefully for spelling errors or URLs to identify fraudulent schemes. There will be irregularities in these.
  • If you see such fake ads on social media, you can report them.
  • Be cautious while using social media and verify all the information before getting tempted.
