Cyber Scam: In today’s digital era, cyber fraudsters are adopting new methods to scam people. In the digital era, online payment and internet banking have made life easier, but with this the cases of cyber fraud are also increasing rapidly. Whereas scammers used to just resort to fake calls or messages, now they are targeting people using new technologies like AI, fake websites, screen sharing apps and social engineering. In such a situation, just a little carelessness can put your hard-earned money in danger. Therefore, it is important to know in what ways cyber criminals are cheating people these days and how they can be avoided.
Be cautious of fake links, AI calls and screen sharing
Nowadays scammers impersonating banks, courier companies, electricity departments, e-commerce websites or government organizations send calls, SMS, WhatsApp or emails. By clicking on the link given in these, your personal information can be stolen. In many cases, with the help of AI, a fake call is made as if it is the voice of an acquaintance. Apart from this, attempts are also made to gain access to the mobile or computer by installing screen sharing apps like AnyDesk, TeamViewer. Do not download such apps on the advice of any unknown person.

Fraud is happening in the name of OTP, UPI PIN and KYC
Cyber criminals often ask for OTP, UPI PIN, CVV and bank details on the pretext of KYC update, closure of bank account, disconnection of electricity connection, winning a prize or getting a job. Remember that no bank, RBI or government agency asks for OTP, UPI PIN or password over phone or message. If someone asks for such information, immediately consider it a fraud and end the conversation.
You can avoid cyber fraud by taking these precautions
Always use only official website and mobile app. Before clicking on any link, check its URL. Use strong passwords and two-factor authentication on all important accounts. Always keep transaction alerts of bank account and UPI app on, do not transfer money just by seeing WhatsApp message, do not download any file from unknown email or number, also check WhatsApp Web if any device is connected then log out. Use security software on your computer.
How to report fraud?
If you unknowingly become a victim of fraud, immediately call the National Cyber Helpline number 1930. After that also file a complaint on National Cyber Crime Reporting. In many cases, timely reporting increases the chances of recovering money.
