ChatGPT Market Share: Who would not know about OpenAI’s ChatGPT in the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI), in today’s time chatgpt still remains the biggest name, but now it is facing tough challenges. According to the State of AI Report 2026 of analytics company Sensor Tower, the market share of ChatGPT has fallen below 50 percent for the first time.
In May 2026, ChatGPT’s share came down to 46.4 percent, whereas till January it was above 50 percent. The biggest reason for this is that now people have started using other AI assistants as per their different needs. Now in the era of AI, Google’s Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude and xAI’s Grok are rapidly making their place.
Gemini and Claude increased speed, users also increased rapidly
According to the report, Google Gemini’s market share has increased to 27.7 percent, while Claude has achieved 10.3 percent share. Whereas other platforms like Grok, Perplexity, DeepSeek and Meta AI currently hold less than 5 percent share. Despite this, ChatGPT remains the world’s most used AI assistant. It has more than 1.1 billion active users every month.
Gemini has about 66.2 crore monthly users and Claude has about 24.5 crore monthly users. Let us tell you that in the same year ChatGPT also became the fastest app to cross the figure of 1 billion monthly users. However, it is now clearly visible that only one company will not dominate the world of AI and the competition will continue to increase.

Choosing AI as per need
According to TechCrunch report, the way people use it is also changing. Earlier many users used to depend on only one AI platform, but now they are using different AI tools for different tasks. Some choose Gemini for better search, some use ChatGPT for writing and research and some use Claude for special features. It was also told in the report that after the news of OpenAI’s partnership with the US Department of Defense came in February, some users had also uninstalled the app.
The market of AI apps is growing rapidly
The entire AI industry is continuously progressing rapidly. Sensor Tower estimates that in the first six months of 2026, AI apps can generate about 2.3 billion downloads and more than $4.2 billion. In the same period last year, this figure was 1.83 billion dollars. In Asia, there has been a decline of 3.3 percent in downloads due to China and India, but this region is still at the forefront in terms of total downloads.
