- App only on rickshaws with compatible lithium batteries.
BAT-BMS App: For the last one or two days, many such videos are going viral on social media, in which electric rickshaws are being stopped from moving on the road with the help of an app. In these videos, someone in a car and someone on a bike are switching off the electric rickshaw by tapping on an app. Not only has this created a debate on road safety, the question is also being asked as to how a rickshaw can be stopped from moving on the road through an app. Today we have brought for you the technical aspect of how the battery of electric rickshaw is being switched off through an app.
How does BAT-BMS App work?
BAT-BMS is a battery management app, which has been developed by Chinese company Shenzhen Grenergy Technology. It is designed to monitor Bluetooth-enabled lithium batteries. This app displays many information like battery charge level, voltage, current, temperature, cycle count and individual cell health. It connects via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and can work in a range of about 15 meters. It was mainly designed for solar, marine and off-grid battery systems.
How are e-rickshaws being stopped from this app?
Many e-rickshaws running on Indian roads use BMS batteries made in China, which come with Bluetooth connectivity. These batteries are neither configured nor have Bluetooth connectivity turned off by default. For this reason, this battery is usually used only with insecure Bluetooth connectivity. This means that anyone can come within their range and connect the battery through Bluetooth and turn it on and off. Once the phone is connected to the battery, the app can stop the battery’s output, causing the e-rickshaw’s motor to stop and stop it mid-road.
Can every rickshaw be closed?
This app does not work on every e-rickshaw. It can connect only to those batteries which have a compatible Bluetooth system and the connectivity option is on. This app does not work with lead-acid batteries. For this reason, e-rickshaws with lead-acid batteries cannot be stopped or started with it.
