New Delhi: There is chaos in the England cricket team these days. Earlier, Ben Stokes surprised everyone by announcing his retirement and a few days later, Test team coach Brendon McCullum was removed from his post. Ben Stokes and McCullum together made a new beginning in English cricket, which was named Baseball, but now it has ceased to exist. In such a situation, McCullum has now apologized to the cricket fans of England for his results as the national Test coach and believed that now the time has come to give a chance to someone else.
McCullum will remain in charge of the limited overs team, but on Sunday he was removed from the role in Test cricket, which he has been holding since 2022. The New Zealand player confirmed that he had been removed and had not stepped down himself, as the England and Wales Cricket Board had said in a statement.
McCullum was disappointed after being removed from the post of coach.
“Yes, I have been stood down,” he said at Edgbaston on Monday. I was disappointed but at the same time I fully respect this decision. We are in a results-based game and actually our results were not that good. Now the time has come to give a chance to someone else. McCullum’s record as England’s Test coach was 27 wins, two draws and 20 losses. His tenure with captain Ben Stokes was named ‘Baseball’.
Aggressive play breathed new life into Test cricket and gave excellent results. At the beginning of his tenure, England won 10 of their first 11 Test matches. But as the team’s experienced players retired, the results started deteriorating. England lost seven of their last nine Test matches, including a 1-2 defeat against New Zealand last month, following which Stokes retired.
