Record collection in 5 months from January 2026 to May

According to the report of Ormax Media, the total gross collection at the box office from January 2026 to May 2026 has been Rs 5373 crore. In 2025, Rs 4804 crore was collected at the box office from January to May. If both are compared, this earning is 12% more in 2026.

This film was released in theaters in March, due to which the highest box office collection in the last five months was recorded in March itself.

How much was collected in which month?

1. Border storm in January

The total collection at the box office in January was Rs 1324 crore. Sunny Deol’s ‘Border 2’ alone had earned Rs 378 crore. After this ‘Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu’ earned Rs 257 crore. There were a lot of expectations from Prabhas’s ‘The Raja Saab’, but this film came out of the theater earning only Rs 173 crore.

2. Atmosphere was the title in February

The box office environment remained cold in the month of February 2026. The collection in February was only Rs 427 crore. Shahid Kapoor’s ‘O Romeo’ collected Rs 74 crore, ‘Thai Kijavi’ collected Rs 70 crore and ‘The Kerala Story 2’ collected Rs 55 crore.

3. Record breaking earnings in March

In the month of March, thanks to ‘Dhurandhar 2’, the collection directly jumped to Rs 1686 crore. There was already craze among the audience about this film. The situation was such that despite the tickets being expensive, a huge crowd of people was seen in the theatres.

4. Audience liked horror in April

The total collection at the Indian box office in April 2026 reached Rs 798 crore. In April, Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan’s film ‘Bhoot Bangla’ became the highest collecting film, earning Rs 190 crore. After that South’s film ‘Waja 2’ collected Rs 148 crore.

5. South and Marathi did wonders at the box office in May

There was a surge in the collection once again in the month of May and the total business at the Indian box office was Rs 1138 crore. The highest earning films this month were Tamil film ‘Karuppu’ (Rs 229 crore) and Malayalam film ‘Drishyam 3’ (Rs 133 crore). Along with this, Marathi cinema also did a great business of Rs 172 crore this month.

These films of 2026 will take the box office to heaven

Such strong growth has been seen at the box office in the first five months itself. Looking at this, we can say that the explosion is yet to happen because the mega budget and most awaited films of the year have not even been released yet.

One of these is Shahrukh Khan’s film ‘King’, in which he will be seen with Deepika Padukone and his daughter Suhana Khan. This film is going to be released at the end of the year on 24th December.

Apart from this, Sunny Deol’s ‘Partition 1947’ is also going to release in August. Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Ramayanam: Part 1’ is being considered one of the biggest films of the year. Made with a huge budget of Rs 4000 crore, this film is going to create many new histories at the box office.

Mega budget blast of South Cinema

Talking about South Film Industry, Yash’s film ‘Toxic’ has been pending for a long time, which has been made in a mega budget of Rs 700 crore. Along with this, Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Jannanayakan’, made with a big budget of Rs 500 crore, can also be released this year.

The year 2025 holds the record for the highest earning at the Indian box office. This year, thanks to films like ‘Chhaava’, ‘Saiyara’ and ‘Dhurandhar’, the collection was Rs 13395 crore. In just 5 months in 2026, the collection of 40.11% of this earning has been crossed.
