This method is to write a small list of work for the next day before sleeping. Yes, just take a paper and pen and write down what tasks you have to do tomorrow. This sounds like a very trivial thing, but there is strong scientific evidence behind it. In a research conducted in the year 2018, fifty-seven people were divided into two different groups. One group was asked to write down a list of important tasks for the next day in five minutes before sleeping, while the other group was asked to write down a list of tasks that had already been completed in the past few days.

The results were really surprising. People who wrote a list of tasks for the next day fell asleep much sooner than those who wrote a list of completed tasks. The reason for this is also very interesting. Our mind keeps worrying about incomplete tasks, which in the language of psychology is called unfinished task effect. When we write these tasks down on paper, the brain is assured that this information is now safe and it does not need to remember it again and again. This makes the mind lighter and sleep comes easily.

This method is also special because it is completely free and it takes very little effort to do it. An hour before sleeping at night, just take out a diary or paper and write down all the tasks you remember tomorrow, whether small or big. Like you have to wake up early in the morning, send an office file or pay the electricity bill. There is no need to think too much or write perfectly, just write whatever comes to your mind.

Apart from this, if you combine this habit with some other small things, then the effect increases further. For example, after writing the list, keep the phone and laptop away, because the light emitted from the screen reduces the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin. Dim the lights of the room a bit, so that the body gets a signal that it is time to sleep.

Research also shows that sleep related problems are not a small matter. Many people feel tired throughout the day due to not being able to sleep well for a long time, and this gradually affects their heart health, memory and mood. In such a situation, this small habit not only helps in getting sleep quickly, but also reduces stress by keeping the mind calm.
