india tour of bangladesh 2026: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has postponed its Ireland tour to be held in September this year. Bangladesh hopes to be able to host a stalled white-ball series against India at that time. Bangladesh requested Ireland to postpone the September tour so that they could host Team India during that time. The ODI World Cup 2027 ticket is also at stake for Bangladesh. The team is currently not among the top-8 teams, which will get direct entry into the tournament.

Bangladesh tour of Ireland postponed.
New Delhi. Bangladesh Cricket Board has postponed the Ireland tour to be held in September 2026. The board is planning to host the Indian cricket team during this period. According to an official of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, when the series with India was shifted from 2025 to September 2026, at the same time Cricket Ireland was requested to give a new date, the Ireland Cricket Board expressed its inability to reschedule the tour to 2026. After this, both the boards mutually agreed to postpone the series. Bangladesh's tour of Ireland could be held sometime in 2027.
As per the pre-determined schedule, the Indian cricket team will reach Bangladesh on 28 August 2026 for a series of 3 ODI and 3 T20 matches. ODI matches will be played on 1, 3 and 6 September, while T20 matches will be played on 9, 12 and 13 September.

World Cup ticket at stake
Bangladesh recently defeated Pakistan 2-1 in their home ODI series. After winning the series, Bangladesh has reached ninth place in the ICC ODI rankings. The team has 79 rating points and is ahead of tenth-placed West Indies. Bangladesh's focus is on qualifying for the ODI World Cup 2027. To qualify directly for the World Cup, Bangladesh will have to make it to the top-8 by March 31, 2027. If the team is unable to do this, then it will have to play the qualifying tournament.
After the postponement of the Ireland tour, Bangladesh has home series against New Zealand, Australia and India as well as a tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe. Relations between Bangladesh and India have been unusual in the last few months. Bangladesh did not come to India to play the matches of T20 World Cup 2026 and boycotted the World Cup.
Will India tour Bangladesh?
In such a situation, nothing can be said with certainty at the moment whether the Indian team will tour Bangladesh for the ODI and T20 series or not. If India's tour is postponed for some reason, Bangladesh will have only limited ODI matches left before the qualification deadline, which can make it difficult for its direct entry into the World Cup.
