Meta, the biggest company in this segment, is facing heavy criticism for the misuse of its glasses. Keeping this in mind, Apple does not want to compromise on privacy. It is believed that Apple is taking a long time to make the device so that privacy concerns can be addressed before launching it.
According to reports, Apple is considering providing on-device processing in smart glasses. This means that whatever data the smart glasses will process, it will be done through the chipset present on the device itself. This data will not be sent to any server. Due to this, the concern that Apple or any other company will be able to see the data recorded from these smart glasses will also disappear. This will be a big feature from privacy point of view.
Apart from on-device processing, Apple will also not provide facial recognition system in its glasses. Meta is considering bringing this feature in its glasses, which is being opposed a lot. To avoid such hassles, Apple will stay away from this feature. In this way, there will not be always-on-recording option in Apple Glasses. Reports also state that Apple will not use any data recorded from the glasses in training its AI models.
It is also being said that Apple will adopt security measures at the software and hardware level also. For this, smart glasses without cameras are also being considered. There are also speculations that Apple may provide a camera only for sensing, which cannot be used to record photos and videos. Apple can also provide such a feature in AirPods with camera, which will be able to sense only the surrounding environment. Photos and videos cannot be taken with this camera.
Currently Apple is working on its smart glasses. It is being speculated that they will be presented during WWDC 2027 in June next year and will be launched before the end of next year. Although it has not been confirmed by Apple yet, it is certain that the company is working rapidly on many wearable gadgets including smart glasses and AI pendants.
Smartglasses market is growing rapidly. At present Meta is the largest company in this segment with 80 percent market share, but now Google, Samsung and Apple are ready to enter it. The market size of AI smart glasses was $1.44 billion in 2025, which is expected to increase to $4.59 billion by 2035.

In view of this, Instagram has taken strict action. Recently Instagram has said that it will remove content recorded without consent from Meta Glasses.
