AI Robot In China: Till now AI was considered limited to mental tasks only, but now machines have started competing with humans in physical strength also. A half marathon race held in China changed this perception. More than 100 humanoid robots took part in the 21.1 kilometer half marathon in Beijing, the capital of China.
These robots completed the race along with humans, although the tracks of both were kept separate so that comparison could be done properly. The surprising thing was that many robots not only completed the race but also achieved excellent timing.
The robot won
The fastest performance in this race was made by a robot which was prepared by Honor company. This robot completed the race in just 50 minutes 26 seconds while the fastest human runner crossed the finish line in 1 hour 7 minutes 47 seconds. However, experts say that this comparison cannot be directly equated with humans because the circumstances were different.
Big improvement from last year
Last year, in a similar race, many robots lost balance or stopped midway. But this time a big improvement was seen in technology. This time most of the robots showed better balance, speed and stamina and completed the race without much trouble.
Power gained from AI and sensors
About 40% of the robots were completely autonomous, that is, they themselves were understanding the path, balancing and adjusting their movements with the help of sensors and AI. The robots which were operated by remote control were given penalty in time. Apart from this, extra time was also added for changing the battery.
Challenges still remain
Despite such excellent performance, robots are still not completely perfect. The robot that won the race also became slightly unbalanced near the finish line, which shows that the technology still needs to be improved.
How did human-like gait develop?
Engineers have designed these robots in such a way that their movements look like humans. The length and structure of the robot’s legs have been designed in such a way that their gait is more effective, just like that of professional runners. Apart from this, liquid cooling system was also used to protect from heat during long runs.

This race clearly showed how fast AI and robotics are progressing. However, it is still challenging for robots to perform tasks in the real world, especially those that require rapid decision making and adapting to changing circumstances.
