By defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets, KKR stopped its streak of 5 consecutive wins. Batting first, SRH were all out for 165 runs despite a brilliant start from Travis Head. KKR achieved the target in 18.2 overs and registered its third consecutive win. Chakraborty played an important role in the victory and gave 36 runs by taking 3 wickets in his four overs. After the match, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane praised the spinner’s performance.
Rahane told how Chakraborty bounced back after a difficult period and performed brilliantly when the team needed it most. He said, “I am very happy for Varun (C). He was struggling before the tournament and in the first few matches. The way he came back was amazing. He is always full of confidence. Works very hard, his attitude is also great. You want such players to do something for the team in difficult situations. He is bowling difficult overs. I am sure he will continue to perform like this in future also.”
He further said, “It was a very good match. The way we came back to bowl was brilliant. It seemed that they would score 190-200 runs. It was a good pitch for batting. Chasing 190-200 runs would have been challenging. But credit goes to our bowlers, especially the spinners. They took wickets continuously. Such small moments are very important, very happy with the win.”
