AI Boosting App Stores: It was being said that with the advent of AI, apps would disappear, but now the picture seems to have completely changed. The number of newly launched apps has increased due to AI. The report of market intelligence firm AppFigures shows that the number of apps launched in the first quarter of this year has increased by 60 percent on an annual basis. This number has increased on Apple’s App Store as well as Google Play Store. If we look at only the App Store, this figure is 80 percent more than the first quarter of last year.
What were the apps being considered a threat?
This report has come out at a time when AI chatbots and agents were being said to be a threat to apps. Many people, including Carl Pei, CEO of Nothing, believe that due to AI chatbots and agents, people will start staying away from apps. However, there is another aspect to this also. Creating apps has become easier because of AI and now anyone can create an app. The latest report is indicating that the App Store has got a boost due to AI. Those people who had ideas but did not have the technical skills to create apps before AI could also be responsible for this.
More apps are being launched in these categories
Like last year, this year too, maximum number of apps related to mobile games have been launched in the first quarter. This year, utility apps have come at second position. The lifestyle category, which was at 5th place last year, has come to 3rd place this year. Productivity apps have entered the top-5 this year and stood at the fourth position, while the fifth position was taken by health and fitness apps.
Demand and earnings both increased
If seen for some time, the demand for AI chatbots and productivity tools has increased a lot. As soon as these apps are launched, users are adopting them quickly. Due to the trend of AI generated images, people are downloading such apps a lot. Due to this, the earnings of developers are also increasing. This is why now developers are constantly busy launching new apps.
