Ravichandran Ashwin suggests salary cut to KKR regarding Cameron Green
New Delhi: Now only a few days are left for the start of the Indian Premier League 2026. All the teams are preparing vigorously for the tournament. Amidst these preparations, two back to back bowlers of Kolkata Knight Riders have been out of the tournament due to injuries. First Harshit Rana and now Akashdeep Singh will also not play in IPL 2026 due to injury. In such a situation, bowling has now become a big challenge for the team this season.
In such a situation, former Team India legend Ravichandran Ashwin has given a special advice to KKR in bowling. Especially regarding Australia's Cameron Green, Ashwin has said that the team should make him bowl four overs in every match. KKR has bought Green in the mini auction for Rs 25.20 crore, but it is not yet clear whether he will bowl in the IPL or not.
Green has a total of 16 wickets in IPL
Green has taken 16 wickets in 29 IPL matches so far for Mumbai Indians (2023) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (2024), but in the recently concluded T20 World Cup, Green bowled only 3.1 overs in four matches. There is a possibility that due to workload management, Green can bowl full four overs in IPL matches for KKR.
Amidst the uncertainty regarding Green's bowling, Ashwin has suggested to KKR that if he refuses to bowl on the instructions of Cricket Australia's workload management, then the team should cut his IPL salary of Rs 25.20 crore.
Green's salary should be cut for not bowling 4 overs – Ashwin
Ashwin said on his YouTube channel Ash, “I have a question about Cameron Green. Will Cricket Australia allow him to bowl four overs in every IPL match? Cricket Australia can say that you cannot bowl four overs. So we will have to see what is the situation regarding him.”
He further said, “It is very simple. Cricket Australia is saying that you play IPL, but Test cricket is more important for us. He is under central contract with them. But IPL teams should also get the same opportunity. If you bowl only 2 overs, I will deduct Rs 2 crore from your contract fee. If he is unable to bowl four overs, then the team has the right to deduct the money.”
Ashwin suggested changes in the contract
Ashwin said, “When you came to the auction we expected you to bowl four overs every time. If there is any restriction then the team should have the right to deduct the money from the contract. This is my simple and humble opinion. If you are KKR and Shahrukh Khan, you have given Rs 25 crore to a player and he says I will bowl only one over. How would you feel?”
