England’s record breaking score and historic partnership
Earlier, Jos Buttler (131 runs on 64 balls) and captain Harry Brook (95 not out on 45 balls) made a record partnership of 233 runs in 103 balls for the second wicket. Due to which England scored 257 runs for three wickets. The England team, which has already won the series, thrashed the Indian bowlers and scored its highest score against India in this format. With this, Butler and Brook made the biggest partnership for any wicket in the history of T20 international cricket.
Upset in ICC rankings and Butler’s stormy century
Thanks to this explosive batting, England is in a position to snatch India’s number one position in the ICC T20 International rankings which has been holding for 1601 days. Brook adopted an aggressive attitude from the beginning and completed his half-century in just 19 balls, while the experienced Butler, after exercising restraint in the beginning, reminded the old days by scoring runs quickly. He completed his half-century in 34 balls and reached his century in the next 17 balls. His innings included 12 fours and eight sixes. This is the second century and highest individual score of 35-year-old Butler’s T20 international career.
Toss decision and English batsmen’s control over Indian bowlers
Indian captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to bowl first, but after getting the early wicket of Phil Salt, the Indian bowlers looked completely ineffective. Prasidh Krishna sent Salt to the pavilion by getting him caught at deep fine leg, but after this the England batsmen completely took control of the match. Butler and Brook together hit 16 sixes, in which both had eight sixes in their account. Butler’s famous pull shot over fine leg off Krishna’s ball was the most attractive stroke of the innings. Before this, he also hit Krishna for a brilliant six over long on.
Heavy rain of runs in the overs of Akshar and Prince
Brook displayed excellent footwork against spinner Akshar Patel from the other end. He came forward in the 10th over of the innings and hit two consecutive sixes. A total of 25 runs were scored in that over of Akshar and from here the Indian bowling completely disintegrated. Prince Yadav also remained the target of England’s batsmen and gave away 60 runs in four overs. Against fast bowlers, Brook showed excellent technique on full length balls, while on short balls he moved towards leg stump and hit brilliant shots over extra cover and long off.
Suryansh Shedge’s debut and captain Iyer looked helpless on the field
After Harshit Rana was out of the entire remaining tour (T20 and ODI) due to injury, the team management gave a chance to Suryansh Shedge. However, he could not take any wicket giving 39 runs in three overs. Shreyas Iyer also handed over the third over to Shedge, in which he spent 24 runs. After this, Prince Yadav was also beaten badly in the next over and 21 runs were scored in that over. There came a time during the match when Iyer looked dejected and helpless standing near the boundary line, while the English batsmen had completely dominated the Indian bowlers.
