If you or any student in your house studies in class 8th, then this news is important for you. NCERT has released a new book of Social Science of class 8. This time many major changes have been made in the chapter on Judiciary. Some old topics have been removed and new topics have been added in their place, so that students can understand the justice system in an easier way.
There was controversy over some parts related to the judiciary in the social science book released a few months ago. After this, the Supreme Court heard the case. NCERT told the court that changes will be made in the book. Now after the instructions of the court, a new book has been released and this book will be taught in place of the old book.
What new was added to the chapter on Judiciary?
In the new book, the entire chapter on judiciary has been written in a new way. Now topics like the role of the Supreme Court, Public Interest Litigation (PIL), Tribunal and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) have been included in it. It has also been told how common people can reach the court if needed.
Many old topics were removed
Parts related to corruption in the judiciary, pending cases in courts, shortage of judges and challenges to the justice system have been removed from the new book. Apart from this, mention of some popular decisions of the Supreme Court will no longer be found in the book. The questions given at the beginning of the chapter have also been changed.

PIL explained in simple language
This time in the book, special emphasis has been laid on Public Interest Litigation i.e. PIL. Students have been told that if any matter is related to the interest of the common people, then a petition can be filed in the court. To explain this, examples of some famous cases have also been given, so that students can easily understand the topic.
Expert committee prepared a new book
NCERT said that these changes have been made after the advice of the Expert Committee of the Education Ministry and the instructions of the Supreme Court. The entire chapter on judiciary has been rewritten. The next hearing of this case is to be held in the Supreme Court on 14 July 2026.
NCERT is continuously preparing new books as per the New Education Policy (NEP 2020). Many new books from class 1 to 9 have already been released. This new social science book for class 8th is also a part of the same process. NCERT says that the new book has been prepared in easy language, so that students can understand the Constitution and the judicial system in a better way along with studies.
