In such a situation, experts recommend adopting the 20-20-20 rule to provide relief to the eyes.
What is the 20-20-20 rule?
The 20-20-20 rule is very simple. This means that after watching the screen for every 20 minutes, take a break of 20 seconds and look at something kept about 20 feet away. For this you do not need to measure the distance at all. You can rest your eyes by looking out the window at a tree, building or any distant object. This provides relief to the eye muscles by continuously focusing at the same distance. Many people become so busy with work that they do not even remember to take breaks. In such a situation, a 20-minute reminder can be set on mobile or computer. Today, there are many such apps available which remind you to look away from the screen from time to time.
What is the problem?
According to healthline, a website that provides information about health, our eyelids blink much less than normal when we continuously look at the screen. Normally a person blinks about 15 times a minute, but this number can be much less while working on a screen. Due to this, one starts feeling dryness, burning sensation and fatigue in the eyes. This condition is also called digital eye strain or computer vision syndrome.
Is it beneficial?
Some studies have found that adopting the 20-20-20 rule can reduce eye dryness and discomfort caused by screens. However, it would not be correct to say that this stops the increase in the number of glasses completely. Experts believe that this rule can be helpful in reducing the pressure on the eyes and providing comfort while using the screen for a long time.

Lubricating eye drops can be used
If you work on screens for several hours every day, then keep some other things in mind as well. Keep the computer screen at about an arm’s distance from the eyes and the upper part of the screen should be slightly below eye level. Avoid working in very bright or very low light and keep the brightness of the screen according to the surrounding light. Keep blinking the eyelids from time to time and if needed, lubricating eye drops can be used as per doctor’s advice.
