Coach gave update on Dhoni’s return

New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings bowling coach Eric Simmons said that veteran Mahendra Singh Dhoni has not come with the team for the match against Delhi Capitals, but his health is continuously improving. Dhoni has not been able to play a single match this season due to calf injury. More than half of this season has passed and CSK is going to play its 10th match. The team’s performance so far has not been as per expectations. Since his retirement from international cricket, there has been a lot of speculation every season about the future of this great 44-year-old Indian player.

When Simmons came to talk to the media a day before the match to be played on Tuesday, the first question he was asked was about Dhoni. Dhoni has been practicing batting in the net sessions for the last few days. Simmons said, “It is beyond my jurisdiction to give updates (information) about Dhoni.” He is not with us in Delhi at present, but is slowly recovering. He himself knows better when he will be ready to play.

Eric Simmons praised Anshul Kamboj

Talking about the performance of the bowlers, Simmons praised Anshul Kamboj. Kamboj has impressed at every stage of the game and is among the joint-highest wicket takers with 17 wickets. Simmons said, “Anshul has performed brilliantly. The Anshul you see today is not just the result of this session; He had started this from last year itself. We worked on some things. He did special work on the angle of his bowling and the accuracy of his yorker in the domestic season.

The bowling coach said, “He has made the nuances of bowling ’round the wicket’ effective. Along with taking wickets, he has been successful in controlling the run rate as well. Praising Kamboj’s professional thinking and method of practice, he said, “He is completely clear about his strategy and fielding arrangement. This clarity is very important for a bowler in modern cricket.” With four wins in nine matches, Chennai Super Kings have now reached a ‘do or die’ situation in the remaining five league matches.

CSK had won in the last match against Mumbai

After defeating Mumbai Indians in the last match, Simmons is confident that his team can make it to the playoffs. He said, “There has definitely been a slight gap between the top four and the rest of the teams in the table, but our fate is still in our hands.” We know that we can beat any team in the league. If we play according to our potential, no one can stop us from reaching the top. When we play well, it becomes very difficult to beat us.
