New Delhi. Rohit Sharma played an explosive innings against Lucknow Super Giants. However, he missed the century. This was Rohit’s comeback match after missing some matches due to injury, in which he played an important role in Mumbai Indians’ third victory by playing a half-century. Chasing the target of 229 runs, Rohit Sharma gave an explosive start to the team by scoring 84 runs in 44 balls, in which Ryan Rickelton also contributed. Even though he could not score his third century in the IPL, during this innings he did something which he had never been able to do before.

Rohit Sharma batted at a strike rate of 190 and destroyed the Lucknow bowlers. He played big shots targeting the bowlers in the powerplay and reached his half-century in 27 balls. This is his fourth fastest half-century in IPL. In the same season, he scored his fastest half-century in IPL by scoring fifty in 23 balls. Rohit hit 6 fours and 7 sixes during his innings of 84 runs. 7 sixes are the highest number of sixes hit by Rohit’s bat in any innings of any IPL match. Before this, Rohit had never hit so many sixes in an innings.

Chasing a big target, Mumbai needed a big and explosive opening partnership. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton did the same. Both of them laid the foundation of victory for Mumbai by making a big partnership of 143 runs for the first wicket. Mumbai had put these runs on the board in the 11th over itself. This is the third century partnership between the two this season. With this, Rohit and Rickelton have become the batsmen with the highest century partnership (for any wicket) for Mumbai in IPL. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, Parthiv Patel and Lendl Simmons, Ambati Rayudu and Sachin Tendulkar have achieved this feat twice each.
