Average data consumption every month is 31 to 36 GB

According to Nokia’s 2025 Mobile Broadband Index report, a mobile user in India will use an average of more than 31 GB of data per month during 2025. According to Ericsson Mobility Report, this figure has reached around 36 GB per user per month. This consumption is said to be more than developed countries like America, Europe and China. If we look at this figure on a daily basis, then on an average an Indian is using more than 1 GB of data daily, however, considering the increasing use of video streaming, gaming and social media, the consumption of many users is much more than this.

After all, why is data usage increasing so fast?

The report states that the increasing popularity of AI applications, 4K video streaming, cloud gaming and social media content is the reason for increasing data consumption. Today, most people watch videos on smartphones, use short video platforms and stream high quality content, which is why mobile data traffic is continuously creating new records. According to Nokia’s report, India’s total mobile data traffic will reach more than 27 exabytes per month in 2025. At the same time, 5G data traffic increased by 70 percent year-on-year to 12.9 exabytes per month, which was about 47 percent of the total mobile broadband traffic.

5G becomes the biggest reason for data consumption

The expansion of 5G network in India has also increased data usage rapidly. According to the report, 58 percent of the total mobile data traffic in metro cities has come on 5G network. The availability and affordable prices of 5G smartphones across the country has also promoted its spread. The number of active 4G devices was expected to reach 892 million by 2025, of which more than 383 million devices were capable of supporting 5G. At the same time, more than 90 percent of the smartphones sold throughout the year came with 5G support.
