New Delhi. A big news has come out from the camp of Delhi Capitals. The team has signed England’s talented leg spinner Rehan Ahmed at a base price of Rs 75 lakh. Rehan Ahmed, who is known for his magical googly and aggressive bowling, will now be seen spreading his magic on the turning pitches of Delhi’s Ferozshah Kotla. The exclusion of England’s aggressive opening batsman Ben Duckett was considered a big blow for Delhi. Although Duckett played some good innings in the beginning of the season, he had to leave the tournament midway due to personal reasons or injury (details as per details). Delhi needed a player who would not only improve the team balance but also have the ability to take wickets in the middle overs.

At the age of just 21, Rehan Ahmed has made a name for himself in international cricket. His figures testify to his ability. He has played 5 Tests, 9 ODIs and 13 T20 International matches for England. Including all three formats, Rehan has taken 48 wickets in his name. Rehan’s biggest strength is his googly, which is difficult for even the world’s best batsmen to read. Apart from this, he also has the ability to play big shots in the lower order, which makes him a useful ‘lower-order’ all-rounder.

Change in strategy of Delhi Capitals
The coach and management of Delhi Capitals have made their strategy clear by choosing a bowler (Rehan) in place of Duckett (batsman). There can be many important reasons behind this. The pitch of Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium has traditionally been helpful to spinners. The trio of Rehan Ahmed along with Kuldeep Yadav and Akshar Patel will be no less than a nightmare for the opposition team. Delhi had left-arm spinners (Kuldeep and Akshar), but were missing a right-arm leg-spinner. Rehan will fill this gap.

Rehan Ahmed is known for taking wickets
Rehan Ahmed is known for taking wickets rather than defensive bowling. In T20 format, taking wickets in the middle overs (7-15) changes the course of the match. Adding Rehan Ahmed for Rs 75 lakh is being considered a ‘smart business’ for Delhi Capitals. In today’s times, where crores of rupees are being bid for foreign players, getting an established international spinner at this price is also good for the team’s purse.
