IPL 2026: Who created real havoc in the powerplay? Which team scored the most runs?

There is an old recipe in T20 cricket, loot as much as you can in the first 6 overs. There are fielding restrictions, bowlers are setting up with the new ball and only two fielders on the boundary. This is the ‘golden time’ which the three teams of IPL 2026 have taken advantage of more than the rest. If we look at the figures, it becomes clear who made the power play a ‘time of recovery’ and who just fulfilled the wishes.

1. Sunrisers Hyderabad, the real sultans of the powerplay
For SRH, powerplay is not just a phase of cricket, it is their weapon, their identity. What happened against Punjab Kings on 11th April was recorded in IPL history. SRH scored 105/0 in the powerplay, i.e. six overs, zero wickets, 105 runs. Abhishek Sharma alone scored 66 runs, that too in just 28 balls, with 5 fours and 8 sixes. Head was still at the crease at that time, 31 runs. This was the joint third highest powerplay score in the history of IPL.

Abhishek-Head duo ‘Travishek‘ is also said, and this season he has crossed the 100+ mark in the powerplay thrice. With the speed with which both of them start, the strike rate exceeds 200. Meaning at least four runs on every two balls. The real magic of SRH is that they set the mood of the match in the first 30 minutes itself. By the time the opposition team regains control, it is already a matter of 90-100 runs.

2. Rajasthan Royals, 15 years of storm
On April 10 in Guwahati, Rajasthan Royals did something against RCB which no one had done this season. Powerplay score, 97/1. This was the highest powerplay score of this entire season and the fifth highest in IPL history. Yashasvi Jaiswal was out in the second over itself, after scoring 13 runs. But the storm that came after his departure was even more dangerous. Seeing what Vaibhav Suryavanshi, age 15, did, the bowlers kept wondering what happened. 57 runs in 18 balls, a score of 50+ runs in the fifth over alone, and the outcome of the match was decided even before the powerplay was over.

Vaibhav’s total score this season is 246 runs in six matches, strike rate of 236.53. And Yashasvi Jaiswal stands with him with 223 runs, average 55.75.
RR’s strength is that both the openers are dangerous. When one goes, the other plays even faster.

3. Punjab Kings, surprise package
The biggest surprise in this list of powerplay is Punjab Kings. This season’s points table topper team has shown a new mindset under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, powerplay is our foundation, everything else later. In the same match on April 11, when SRH made 105/0, in reply PBKS showed that they were no less than anyone by making 93/0. Priyansh Arya scored 18 runs in the very first over. Prabhsimran Singh held one end. And together they ‘answered the brick with stone’.

Priyansh Arya 248+ in this season Batting at a strike rate of. Ricky Ponting, who is the head coach of PBKS, after seeing Arya’s innings of 39 runs in 11 balls against CSK, said that he has seen better ball striking than this in his life. The specialty of PBKS is that they are both scoring runs and saving wickets in the powerplay, which is the best start for any team.
