Shubman Gill statement: Shubman Gill did not want a century! Indian captain sad despite victory over Afghanistan in second ODI

New Delhi: Indian captain Shubman Gill, despite suffering from stiffness in the scorching heat, scored an excellent century in the second ODI against Afghanistan. However, despite this century, Shubman Gill did not look very happy and after the match he told that he was thinking of not a century but a double century, but he could not score it. Apart from Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan also scored a century for Team India, due to which India scored a huge score of 403 runs. In response, Afghanistan team was reduced to 232 runs in 44.3 overs.

Captain Gill scored 154 runs in this match for Team India. Whereas, if we talk about Ishan Kishan, he scored 125 runs. After the match, captain Gill said after India’s 170-run win, “The ball was going where I wanted to hit it. I was full of confidence. Before the series, my target was to finish the match and bat for 40-45 overs. I wanted to score 200 runs but I had to play shots continuously. I wanted to take the score to 430 runs but got caught out at deep cover.

Shubman Gill praised the fast bowlers fiercely

He said, “The toss did not make much difference. If we had got the target of 310-320 runs, there would have been good pressure on the team. Everything is in good condition. The fast bowlers are consistently bowling at the right places, which is not easy. Gill, who was named the best player of the match, said that due to the extreme heat he had to face the problem of swelling and stiffness but now he is feeling better. He said, “There is a little pain.” There were a lot of cramps at different places. It was very hot. I batted for 40-45 overs. Now I am feeling much better. I am in good condition.

Afghan captain is not happy with his bowlers

After the match, Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi admitted that the performance of his bowlers was not as per expectations. “You can’t leave everything toss,” he said. Our bowling was not good. We gave them momentum in the first 20 overs. It was hot but at the same time you also have to bowl well. Today we could not win. Hopefully we will learn from this.

Regarding Rasooli who retired due to stiffness in his leg, Shahidi said, “Rasooli was suffering from stiffness. I asked him if he was okay. He was fine and I told him to go to bat before me. We needed someone who could play big shots but unfortunately he had stiffness again. It has been a difficult series, hopefully we play well in Chennai. The performances of Rahmat and Gurbaz are good things, but we need to perform better in bowling.
