New Delhi. In the history of Indian cricket, the name of Sachin Tendulkar is not just a player but a symbol of an era. When the Indian Premier League started in 2008, there was curiosity in the cricket world as to how the king of the purest format of the game would adapt to this fast-paced cricket. Mumbai Indians declared Sachin as their ‘Icon Player’, which not only suited his stature but also placed him at the top of the league financially. According to the rules of that time, as an icon player, Sachin got 15 percent more salary than the most expensive player of the team. If we look at his journey between 2008 and 2013, he earned a total of about Rs 38.295 crore (about 4.32 million US dollars).

In the first three years of IPL (2008-2010), Sachin Tendulkar’s annual salary was around Rs 4.485 crore. As the popularity and market value of the league increased, his annual earnings increased to Rs 8.28 crore between 2011 and 2013. If we understand this mathematics according to the matches taking place on the field, then in an average season when the team played 14 to 16 matches, then Sachin’s earning per match was between Rs 28 lakh to Rs 60 lakh. In today’s era of crores, these figures may seem low, but at that time this amount was a mirror of Sachin’s unmatched brand value and the then financial condition of the league.

Sachin was the emotion of the fans
For Mumbai Indians, Sachin was not just a captain or a batsman, but was the name of that spirit to see which thousands of fans used to stand outside the Wankhede Stadium for hours just to get a glimpse of the team bus.

Sachin’s career in statistics
Sachin’s IPL journey is just a small chapter of his great career which changed the definition of cricket. He was considered the most complete batsman of his time. He holds the record for most centuries in both Test and ODI formats. It is surprising to know that Sachin, who scored a lot of runs in ODI, scored his first century in his 79th match, but once the sequence started, he made a mountain-like score of 34,357 international runs.

By playing 200 matches in the white jersey game i.e. Test cricket, he created a record which seems impossible to touch. In these matches, he scored 15,921 runs, 51 centuries and hit a record 2,058 fours. He became the fastest player to score 15,000 Test runs in 300 innings.

‘Master Blaster’ of Records
Sachin’s dominance in ODI cricket was such that the year 1998 was entirely in his name. In that one year, he scored 1,894 runs and 9 centuries, which is still the record for the most runs scored by any batsman in a calendar year. The shine of his 22 years and 91 days long ODI career continues even today. Sachin won the title of ‘Player of the Match’ a total of 76 times in all three formats, while scoring a total of 264 half-centuries and being a victim of nervous nineties, he was out on the score of 90 28 times.
