When we talk about the biggest successful run chase in the history of IPL, the names of the most successful franchises of the tournament like Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians come to mind. Some fans might be associating three-time IPL champion Kolkata Knight Riders with this, but it is not so. Neither Mumbai, nor Chennai, nor KKR, any of these three have this record, but this record is held by a team which has not been able to win the trophy even once in the last 18 seasons. This team is playing again in the current IPL season with the hope of winning the trophy for the 19th time. Actually, Punjab Kings have achieved the biggest successful run chase in IPL history. Punjab team did this in 2024. Earlier, the record of the biggest successful run chase in IPL was in the name of Sunrajirs Hyderabad, who won the match by scoring 247 runs.

In the 42nd match of IPL 2024, all limits of excitement were crossed when Kolkata Knight Riders lost even after scoring a huge score of 261 runs. The batsmen of Punjab Kings defeated the bowlers to such an extent that the match ended with eight balls remaining. The trio of Jonny Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh had created a new history with their stormy batting. This is also the biggest successful run chase in T20 history. Interestingly, the current captain of Punjab Kings, Shreyas Iyer was commanding KKR at that time. Sam Curran was the captain of Punjab in that match, who was given the command after Shikhar Dhawan was out of the season due to injury.
