Mohammad Kaif angry at Kolkata Knight Riders, criticized for making Russell power coach

New Delhi. Indian Premier League 2026 The condition of Kolkata Knight Riders is bad. The team has lost 4 out of 5 matches played so far. One match was saved due to rain and one point was scored. The team suffered another defeat on Tuesday against Chennai Super Kings. KKR has been facing continuous criticism since its fourth defeat. Former Indian batsman Mohammad Kaif has raised questions on KKR’s strategy this season. He said that the franchise has made a big mistake by putting Andre Russell in the role of “power coach” and investing big money on Cameron Green.

This comment of Kaif has come after KKR’s 32-run defeat against Chennai Super Kings. KKR has not got a single win so far this season. Their only point was a rain-washed match against Punjab Kings. The team is at the bottom of the table after losing to Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants and CSK, raising serious questions on the team’s balance and planning.

Kaif wrote on social media, “Perhaps the biggest mistake of KKR was to make Andre Russell the coach this season. It was a mistake not to use him as an all-rounder. Is he still not a better all-rounder than Cameron Green worth Rs 25 crore? The answer is clear.”

This criticism is on KKR’s decision to spend a huge amount of money on Green by removing Russell from the role of all-rounder on the field. It is not just a matter of performance, but also how the green was used. The Australian all-rounder has mostly been sent to bat at number 6, which is not right according to his strength. Green has generally performed well at the top of the order, where he gets time to build his innings. In the lower order, he has to play in risky situations with fewer balls.

Its effect is visible in his performance also. Apart from 32 runs not out and 1 wicket against Lucknow Super Giants, Green has been able to score only 0, 4, 2 and 18 runs in the remaining matches. In contrast, Russell had made his mark as a finisher and impact all-rounder for KKR. His ability to finish matches with the bat and contribute with the ball made him the most dangerous player in the league. KKR’s troubles this season have also highlighted their lack of finishing. The team has experimented with combinations and roles, but lack of clarity has hurt them.
