In the history of IPL, Gurjapaneet has now joined the list of select 11 bowlers who have taken a wicket on the very first ball of their first match. Ishant Sharma was the first to achieve this feat in IPL history. While playing for KKR in 2008, he dismissed Rahul Dravid on the very first ball. Before Gurjapaneet, this record was made for CAK by Mathisha Pathirana. He took a wicket on his first ball against Gujarat Titans in 2022.

Who is Gurjapneet Singh? How to join Chennai Super Kings
Gurjapaneet Singh’s journey from being a ‘net bowler’ to making his debut for CAK is very inspiring. Gurjapaneet is originally from Punjab, but he plays domestic cricket for Tamil Nadu. Their length helps them in getting extra bounce. He has bowled brilliantly for Tamil Nadu in Vijay Hazare Trophy and Ranji Trophy. His performance in the Tamil Nadu Premier League has also been amazing. Gurjapaneet’s path to reach Chennai Super Kings has been full of hard work. Gurjapaneet was associated with CSK as a net bowler for the last few seasons. Considering his domestic record and his hard work in the nets, CSK bought him in the IPL 2025 auction. The team had retained him for the current season.
