Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) got a big shock today. The party’s three Rajya Sabha MPs Raghav Chadha, Ashok Kumar Mittal and Sandeep Pathak will resign from AAP and join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The three leaders announced their decision in a joint press conference. Talking to the media, Raghav Chadha said that AAP has two-thirds members in the Rajya Sabha, using the provisions of the Constitution to decide to merge themselves with the BJP. Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal were also present on the stage with him.
This move is being considered a big political blow for Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP leadership, as all three leaders were counted among the prominent faces of the party and were representing AAP in the Rajya Sabha since 2022. Let’s know the education of Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal…
Sandeep Pathak’s journey
According to reports, Sandeep Pathak was born in a farmer family in Bataha village of Mungeli district of Chhattisgarh. He did his primary education in his village till sixth class. For further studies, he went to Bilaspur, where he continued his studies while staying at his aunt’s house. He did his Masters in Chhattisgarh.
After this his journey reached the big research institutes of the country. He was associated with studies and research at the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad and the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune. From here his path towards abroad opened. Sandeep Pathak did his PhD on High Temperature Superconducting Materials from the University of Cambridge. After this he also did post-doctoral research in institutions like Oxford University and MIT.

IIT Delhi professor
In the year 2016, Sandeep Pathak joined IIT Delhi as faculty. Before coming into politics, he had earned a big name in the world of education and research. His role in politics came to the fore during the 2022 Punjab elections, where he was active in making strategies behind the scenes. Keeping this work in mind, AAP sent him to Rajya Sabha.
Know the journey of Ashok Mittal
Ashok Mittal was born on 10 September 1964. He is known as a successful businessman and a big name in the education sector. He is the founder and chancellor of Lovely Professional University (LPU). His contribution in the field of education is considered huge. Talking about education, Ashok Mittal has studied law from Guru Nanak Dev University. Apart from this, in the year 2022, he also received an honorary doctorate degree from Atal Bihari Vajpayee University.
When did you enter politics?
After the 2022 Punjab elections, Ashok Mittal entered active politics. AAP made him its Rajya Sabha candidate and he was elected without any opposition. Later he also became a member of the Parliament’s Standing Committee on Finance.
