Apple AirTag: Apple’s AirTag is a small tracking device which looks round and light but does a great job. You can attach it to your bag, keys or any important item. Once connected to an iPhone or iPad, it works quietly in the background and helps track the location of your belongings.
What changed in the new generation?
In the second generation AirTag, the design has remained the same but the technology inside has been significantly upgraded. Its range has increased by about 50% more than before, which makes it easier to find it even from a distance. Apart from this, it has a new Ultra-Wideband (UWB) chip which tells you more accurate direction and distance. Now you can also track it through Apple Watch.
The new Bluetooth system gives it better connectivity while its speaker sounds louder than before. The special thing is that a different kind of new sound has also been added to it so that it can be easily identified even in the noise.
After all, how does AirTag work?
The most interesting thing about AirTag is its way of working. It does not itself send signals over long distances but takes the help of millions of Apple devices present nearby. When an AirTag sends a signal, a nearby iPhone, iPad or Mac picks up the signal and its location is updated securely over Apple’s Find My network. This is the reason that even if your bag reaches another city or country, you can still know its location.
Finding lost items made easier
If your luggage is nearby then you can make a sound from AirTag and find it easily. If it is far away then Find My app shows you its location through the map. In iPhone 11 or newer models, you are also shown directions so that you can directly reach that thing.
What about security and privacy?
Apple has given many features in it keeping privacy in mind. If an unknown AirTag moves with you, you get an immediate notification on your iPhone. You can scan that AirTag and view its information and if necessary, you can also turn it off.
This greatly reduces the possibility of misuse. AirTag uses a small CR2032 battery which lasts for about a year. You get an alert in advance when the battery is low and it is also very easy to change it.
