Story of Anang Trayodashi

According to the legend, there was a demon named Tarakasur who was given the boon that his death would be at the hands of Lord Shiva's son. Tarakasura had spread a lot of terror. All the gods and goddesses were troubled by his terror. To escape from his terror, everyone went to Kamadeva and requested him to break the penance of Lord Shiva who was engrossed in penance.

Kamadeva accepted everyone's request and broke Lord Shiva's penance but he had to face the wrath of Mahadev. Mahadev incinerated Kamadeva. Seeing all this, Kamadeva's wife requested Lord Shiva to bring Kamadeva back to life.

Lord Shiva accepted Rati's request and revived Kamadeva but could not return his body. After this Lord Shiva gave two boons to Kamadeva.

As per the boon of Lord Shiva, he told Kamadeva that he will be born as the son of Lord Krishna in Dwaparayuga, after which he will be married to Goddess Rati. Lord Shiva, in his second boon to Kamadeva, said that Kamadeva would have to remain without limbs until he was born as the son of Shri Krishna.

Because of which one of his names will also be called Anang. That day was Trayodashi, hence from that day it started being celebrated as Anang Trayodashi.
