‘We have tried our best to…’, Chief Electoral Officer’s big statement amid Bengal election results, know what he said?

Counting of votes continues for West Bengal Assembly elections. Initial trends indicate that BJP will form the government with full majority. Amidst the counting, a big statement from the state’s Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Aggarwal has come out. He said that the Election Commission has tried its best to make the elections fair. He also indicated that in the coming time, elections can be held in Bengal in a single phase.

What did the Chief Electoral Officer of Bengal say?

West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Aggarwal said, ‘We have tried our best to conduct free and fair elections, we have tried our best to maintain law and order. We have tried our best to ensure that people can vote without fear. People have celebrated this election like a festival. We were also ready to hold elections in one phase, but a lot of factors are taken into consideration. It is possible that elections may be held in West Bengal in a single phase in the coming time. Whatever rules, regulations and laws are there, they will be followed.

BJP has a huge lead in the trends

BJP has performed tremendously in the initial hours of counting of votes in West Bengal. In the trends till 12 o’clock, BJP has gained lead on more than 190 seats. At the same time, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has also defeated Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Bhawanipur. The Election Commission has made public the trends of 102 assembly seats till 10.30 am. In the trends, BJP is leading on 63 assembly seats, while Trinamool Congress is ahead on only 37 seats. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has lagged behind in Bhawanipur.

Counting of votes for 293 out of 294 assembly seats is going on in West Bengal on Monday. Voting was completed in two phases in the state on April 23 and April 29.
