Former wicketkeeper’s suggestion, Vaibhav Suryavanshi should open the innings in ODI with Rohit Sharma.
New Delhi. The number of fans of Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who created ruckus against the bowlers in Harare, is continuously increasing. A new name has been added to this list of former Indian cricketer Farooq Engineer. The former wicketkeeper said that ahead of the 2027 World Cup, young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi should be included in the ODI team as an opening batsman along with Rohit Sharma. The wicketkeeper batsman of yesteryear opined that Shubman Gill, who is the other half of the current opening pair along with Rohit, can bat at number 4, which will further strengthen the middle order.

Rohit- Vaibhav should be the opening pair in ODI.
Engineer said in an interview, “The ideal situation is that of Shubhman Gill and Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Gill is a class player. Gill, I think, is the best batsman in the team now. Therefore, Gill should come at number four.” “Gill is not a player who lifts the ball high. So, a left-right combination would be ideal in ODIs. So, if Rohit is playing, and I think he should, let him open with Suryavanshi.” “A batsman like him (Suryavanshi) is much better at opening because he finds big gaps in the field. Virat Kohli can come at number three. Gill can come at number four and then we will have a strong batting order.
Kohinoor is Suryavanshi
Engineer said that I don’t know why people make so much difference between ODI and T20 because for me, a half-volley is a half-volley. He is scoring runs and has the confidence to open the innings. He will win more matches for you than make you lose. When he gives such a start, other players can get time to strengthen the innings and score big. The 8-year-old said that the Indian team should stick with Suryavanshi as he is a high-quality match-winner. “Anyone who is a little short of length in Suryavanshi’s curve will go for sixes. He has learned from his mistakes, he has learned to control himself. But don’t try to coach him too much. He is not from the MCC manual book, which is completely out of date. He is a genius. Not even Viv Richards was there. Viv was the best batsman I have ever seen play. But stick with Suryavanshi. He will be a tremendous asset for India.
