Vaibhav Sooryavanshi overtakes Sachin Tendulkar: Many such scripts have been written in the history of Indian cricket, which have forced the sports lovers to dance. But when a young batsman of just 15 years comes on the field and destroys the records of big legends, then it becomes not just an innings but the beginning of a new era. After making his international debut in the difficult and fast pitch conditions of England, Vaibhav Suryavanshi did not have a very good start. In the very first match of the T20 series played against Zimbabwe, Vaibhav left such an impression that the pages of the record book started being rewritten.
The first three innings were very disappointing for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who made his international cricket debut on the challenging soil of England. He failed to play big innings amidst the speed and pressure of international cricket. But in the T20 match against Zimbabwe in Harare, he gave a befitting reply to all the critics with his bat.
Vaibhav adopted an aggressive stance against the Zimbabwean bowlers as soon as he stepped on the crease. He completed his half-century in just 18 balls by hitting fours and sixes all around the ground. This explosive innings destroyed Zimbabwe’s bowling attack.
When Vaibhav completed his first international half-century against Zimbabwe, he was 15 years and 118 days old. With this inning, he became the youngest player in the history of T20 international cricket to score the first half-century. He left behind young players from all over the world and made this unique world record.

Earlier, the record for scoring the youngest half-century in T20 International cricket was in the name of Gibraltar’s Lewis Bruce. In the year 2021, Bruce had scored a fifty against Malta in Alberta at the age of 16 years and 56 days. By doing this feat at the age of 15 years and 118 days, Vaibhav took Bruce’s years old record in his name.
After this record of Vaibhav, the list of players who scored the youngest fifty in T20 International has completely changed. This list includes names like Kevin Chaddha of Indonesia (16 years 76 days, vs Sweden, 2026), Alusin Touré of Sierra Leone (16 years 89 days, vs Ghana, 2023) and Tenzin Rabge of Bhutan (16 years 118 days, vs China, 2023), whom Vaibhav left far behind.
The biggest and memorable aspect of this innings of Vaibhav Suryavanshi was that he destroyed the years-old record of Sachin Tendulkar, who was called the ‘God’ of cricket. Vaibhav has now become the youngest batsman to score a half-century in international cricket in terms of full member countries.
Sachin Tendulkar scored his first international half-century at the age of 16 years and 213 days in the Faisalabad Test against Pakistan in 1989. This record of Sachin remained unbroken for decades. But Vaibhav made this grand record of Master-Blaster in his name by scoring a fifty in T20I at the age of 15 years and 118 days.
Former Pakistan legend Shahid Afridi was also included in the list of youngest half-centuries of full member teams, who scored an ODI fifty against Sri Lanka in Nairobi in 1996 at the age of 16 years and 214 days. Apart from this, the names of Pakistan’s Mushtaq Mohammad (17 years 39 days, 1960) and Bangladesh’s Mohammad Ashraful (17 years 63 days, 2001) were also mentioned in this list, who have now been left behind in front of the storm of glory.
This half-century of Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become a new milestone not only at the world level but also in the history of Indian cricket. He has become the youngest player to score a fifty at the international level for India in any format (Test, ODI or T20).
If we look at the international cricket history of all the countries around the world (Associate and Full Member), still Vaibhav’s name comes at the top. Apart from the full member teams, only Kushal Malla of Nepal among the associate countries was able to do this at the age of under 16. Kushal Malla scored a half-century in the ODI against America in Kirtipur in the year 2020 at the age of 15 years and 340 days. By doing this feat at the age of 15 years and 118 days, Vaibhav achieved the first position in international cricket.
